Looser restrictions, study payments, but no budget boost for Newstart

Despite a broad campaign with support from welfare groups and some sections of the business community, the government has made clear that there will be no rise in the Newstart payment in the tomorrow’s budget. There will be some loosening of the restrictions on how much work people can do before the government starts to cut their payments, but ACOSS says the changes don’t go far enough
