The airwarves have been running hot in the Northern Territory with debate about some radical proposals by Administrator Ted Egan. Ideas such as canteens to provide meals, abandonment of western housing and culling back camp dogs have received mixed responses. Opposition Indigenous Affiars spokesman John Elferink claims Mr Egan’s ideas have embarrased the Chief Minister becuase, by tradition, the Administor should only make comments in accordance with government policy. ATSIC Yilli Reung Regional Council Chair Kimberly Hunter is dubious about the lack of consultation in the proposals.
