Life with the Raskols

Stephen Dupont’s photojournalism assignment in PNG turned into a real adventure as he gained the acceptance of the Raskol gangs who terrorise Port Moresby. The city was recently rated the least liveable in the world by the Economist magazine. Dupont says his time with the gangs gave him an understanding of why they have turned to crime . He says they are forced to support themselves as the corruption of the system leaves no legal way to get ahead and they told hime they are eager for Australia to have more of a presence there. His photos form part of an exhibition opening next week at the Sydney Centre for Contemporary Photography.
