You may think Landcare is a bunch of locals with spades getting out on a Sunday to beautify the neighbourhood , but its actually a worldwide program…. and one Australia can take the credit for. Landcare international first moved into the Philippines and now runs projects in twelve countries . Dennis Gerrity is chair of the steering committee as well as working in Africa running the World Agroforestry Centre. He says the origins of Landcare as a community-driven movement in Australia account for its success in countries like Africa and the Phillipines.
