Indigenous Social Justice Committee President Ray Jackson has dismissed claims that that Aboriginal inmates at a Southern New South Wales jail are converting to Islam to become terrorists. Corrective Services Commissioner Ron Woodham told the ABC s Four Corners program some prisoners at Goulburn’s “Supermax” jail had denounced their Aboriginality for Islam .. and were talking the talk of terrorists. Mr Jackson says he’s concerned that this particular sect has been linked to terrorism. And he says although he meets many prisoners who are converting to Islam, he doesn’t see it as anything to be concerned about. Mr Jackson believes the real concern is the complacency of Australia in demonising Aboriginal Muslims. The inmates he had contact with were proud of the Aboriginal heritage and maintain it with their faith.
