Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke has today named koalas as a threatened species. Koala populations in Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT have been listed as ‘vulnerable’ due to staggering declines in numbers.
New developments will require koalas to be included in environmental assessments for the projects, and this protection has wide support.
