Since 2011, over two million hectares of koala habitat have been lost to industry, housing developments and other expansive projects.
In response, the current NSW Labor government promised to create the ‘Great Koala National Park’ to boost preservation of the state’s koala population.
However, the construction of the national park has seen continued delays leading to further destruction of habitable koala forest.
The Australian Conservation Foundation says they are disappointed with the lack of protection provided under current environmental laws for koala habitats.
