A class action against the British Government is being prepared by victims and relatives of victims of the Maralinga nuclear tests. The action—parallel with another initiated by Australian ex-servicemen—comes as recent evidence finds a direct link between the tests and deaths and diseases suffered. But while it is targeted at Britain’s Ministry of Defence, the action has again questioned the extent to which Australia can legitimately claim ignorance of the dangers of exposure at the time.
