There are reports today of another journalist’s death in the Phillipines. It’s a country where it is very dangerous profession – 121 reporters have died since 1986, with 12 killed in one massacre during election time in 2009 The new Aquino government took over in June last year with an agenda of ending corruption – yet at least 4 journalists have been murdered since then. The Centre for Media Freedom and Responsibility in the Phillipines keeps a close eye on the situation – Deputy Director Luis Teodoro says that that while they’re not sure the latest death definitely fits the bill, reporting in the Phillipines is as dangerous as ever and the new governement is slow to move to protect journalists.
