The number of dead or missing now stands at over 21,000 after the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan’s east coast. While life continues largely unaffected in Tokyo, people further north, in the areas badly hit by the tsunami, have no idea how long it might take before their lives return to normal. David Crisante is a freelance journalist based in Tokyo. He says some that nine days after the quake, food and water are still scarce in some pockets of the affected areas. The Wire spoke to him to get an update on the recovery efforts.
