The Islamic Community has today responded to newspaper reports that Islamic bookshops are selling inflammatory literature that promotes suicide bombings. After The Australian, newspaper, reported that a bookshop in Sydney’s west was selling the material, the Islamic Council of Australia today condemned the promotion of books inciting violence, but was quick to state that the reports were part of a larger backlash against the Muslim community. And while Acting Prime Minister Mark Vaille today issued a warning to any bookstores selling such material, others in the community fear that the accusations will be followed by an erosion of civil liberties. Charles Gregory reports.
