Months after Victoria was devastated by the Black Saturday bushfires, Victorian Premier John Brumby today announced an overhaul of the national bushfire warning system. From today, all states and territories will adopt a new fire warning category, Code Red, or ‘CATASTROPHIC’. This early warning category urges people to leave their homes as early as possible rather than stay to fight the fire. But is this enough to prevent a repeat of February’s devastating fires?
