Non-profit organisation Humane Research Australia has capitalised on the successful Ice Bucket Challenge – in support of research for neurodegenerative disease ALS – to point-out that people may be unwittingly supporting charities who conduct animal research. The organisation has created the “Humane Charities List” which provides information on health-related charities that do not fund or engage in animal-based research. This has re-ignited the debate as to whether animal testing is still necessary.
