For the first time the High Court is considering whether or not DNA evidence alone is enough proof to convict someone of a crime. Lawyers say this could raise doubts over hundreds of criminal convictions if it is decided that too much weight is placed on DNA evidence. Experts say the hearing, which begins today, could trigger a complete overhaul of how DNA evidence is collected and analysed.
