An Iranian woman has begun a jail sentence of 3 years, and suffered 20 lashes, for taking part in a peaceful protest for equal rights. While the struggle for women’s rights in recent years has increased, the government under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has suppressed any attempts at dissent.
