Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty recently noted that climate change could bring refugees to Australia from the South Pacific islands. Today it was reported The UN’s representative in Australia, Abdullah Mbamba, responded by saying the Federal government should be prepared for refugees to not only come from outside Australia, but from within. He says temperature changes could force many Aboriginal communities off their traditional lands and into cities. But Dr Geoff Wells, a senior lecturer at the University of South Australia, says it’s not as simple as Mr Mbamba may believe.
