Has the Government’s commitment to practical reconciliation delivered real outcomes for indigenous Australians? The life expectancy for Aboriginal people is 20 years lower than that of non-Aboriginal people, making the recent debate on retirement and ageing particularly ironic. The 2003 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice and Native Title Reports were launched last Friday. Written by Dr Bill Jonas, they do contain some good news, unfortunately not enough.
