Indigenous media – still shouting from the sidelines

Three government departments are currently reviewing indigenous broadcasting in this country. The last review by the Productivity Commission in 1999 recommended the setting up of an independent indigenous network but that hasn’t happened. Jim Remedio is chair of the Australian Indigenous Communications Association – he spoke in Canberra this afternoon to a media symposium and told them that what indigenous broadcasting in Australia needs is its own voice and network similar to the ABC and SBS.
