Ever since the Federal Government took over direct responsibility for inidigenous affairs they’ve been on a mission to make communities be seen to be paying their way. Today Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Kevin Andrews announced that the Community Development Employment Program which accounts for much indigenous employment is to have a shakeup. The program is to be tied more firmly to training and job outcomes, with no detail yet as to how this will be achieved, and apparently with the same budget as it currently has. Tasmanian Regional Council Chairman is worried that the changes will be forced and that indigenous people will be disempowered.
