Indigenous artists celebrate 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides

Fifty years ago in defiance of racial segregation in the US, civil rights activists rode in buses into the Black South, and became known as the Freedom riders. Australia’s version of the Freedom rides followed soon after, visiting indigenous communities in remote Australia. To mark the anniversary of those historic journeys, the Freedom Riders arts exhibition, chronicles Australian Indigenous activism from the 60’s to the present. Features interview with curator at University of Sydney Gallery, Matt Poll. He says young activists now find inspiration in these histories of struggle for self-determination.
