Islamic State is producing highly crafted, expensively made propaganda videos in order to manipulate Western and traditional media outlets, research commissioned by the Lowy Institute has found. Freelance journalist Lauren Williams, author of the findings, says that Western media, by showing videos from Islamic State, are helping to share the terrorist organisation’s three main objectives: recruit soldiers, intimidate hostile audiences, and establish themselves as a legitimate state.
