Today, the 1st Language Festival at the University of Adelaide kicked off with conferences and workshops about languages. It aims to raise awareness about learning a new language, as well to embrace our multicultural society. According to linguists, Australia is considered a multicultural country, but a monolingual one.

With more than 6000 languages spoken around the world, it’s a wonder we can communicate with each other at all. But what do people think about learning a new language in a monolingual country?
