There’s no doubt that the suicide rate for aboriginal girls in the Northern Territory has surged to alarming numbers since the eighties. The rate of community and domestic violence is also high, and there are a number of factors behind this. Media reports this week have implied that the Northern Territory intervention may be responsible for a rise in suicide rates, but one expert says there’s no evidence for this.
