The ruling comes just six days after the ACT laws came into effect and annuls the marriages of same-sex couples who had taken advantage of the ACT’s stance.

Marriage Equality advocates have been dealt a major blow in their campaign to have same-sex marriages recognised under Australian law. In a unanimous decision, the High Court in Canberra ruled against the ACT’s same-sex marriage laws, saying they’re inconsistent with the Federal Marriage Act.
