Health and services van to tackle Indigenous diabetes-related blindness

A new $5 million campaign targeting diabetes-related blindness in Aboriginal communities is beginning in Queensland today and is set to improve services and education.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are more than seven times more likely to have diabetes and are often in remote areas restricted from access to health facilities.The Indigenous Diabetes Eyes and Screening van will travel to these destinations to improve these services. But some eye specialists say even more needs to be done.
