Whilst the Australian media has seized upon the words of Fijian military commander, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, about the possibility of a coup, there is nervous tension in the Island state about the stand-off between the military and the Government of Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase. Fiji’s media are reporting that the Australian Government’s action in deploying two naval vessels to the area has only raised tension in the pacific. The wire spoke with journalist and correspondent with the Sydney Morning Herald, Joel Gibson, about the busy couple of days he’s had trying to calm down a lot of excited international journalists.
