The Clarke inquiry into what really did happen in the now notorious Haneef case got started today. The preliminary hearing has already raised questions that the inquiry won’t really have the powers it needs to uncover who was to blame and whether procedures need to change to protect innocence in the case of suspected terrorists. Peter Russo was Mohammed Haneef’s original lawyer – he is still close to Haneef and involved in the current enquiry . He says the enquiry will only be effective if the AFP are forced to reveal the evidence they say they have.
