A group of Guantanamo Bay detainees have been on a hunger strike for the last 53 days. People in good physical shape can survive for about 60 days without food—back in 1981 IRA prisoner Bobby Sands died in a British prison after 66 days. British human rights lawyer Clive Stafford-Smith is representing some of the Guantanamo Bay inmates, and he told Peter Godfrey about how the US Government is trying to suppress news about the hunger strike. He also revealed he’s spoken to British government officials about Australian Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks’ claim for British citizenship.
