This week unions and women’s groups have been stepping up pressure on the federal government to deliver on their promises of a paid maternity leave scheme for women in the upcoming budget. The productivity commission’s recent enquiry into the issue recommended a government paid scheme of 18 weeks leave for women and 2 weeks for men. But the Greens are calling on the government to bring in 26 week scheme.
