The sudden willingness of politicians to look at nuclear power has left many Greens in a vexed position, as one of the main arguments is the need to do something about global warming. Dr Clive Hamilton from the Australia Institute says that while environmentalists may have agreed to enter the debate he doesn’t believe Australia will ever have nuclear power and that the debate will merely stimulate the development of alternative sources like gas.
