The South Australian Government is proposing to rezone farmland to allow for residential development as part of its Greater Adelaide Regional Plan. Under the proposed bill, farmland at Two Wells, Roseworthy and other areas is planned to become space for over 61,000 homes.

The State government says removing protections under the Environment and Food Production Areas, could be vital to combating the deepening housing crisis. However, farming and agriculture experts are concerned handing over more productive cropping land could threaten long term food security and the state’s production capacity.
