The death of a 10-year-old Indigenous boy in state care has reignited calls for the federal government to enact major reform to child removal.

More First Nations children are in out-of-home care now after the rate has consistently increased over the last 20 years.

A report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in 2022 found First Nations children were nearly 12 times more likely to be in out-of-home care compared to non-Indigenous children.
