Government and coalition CPRS compromise lashed by critics

Government and opposition negotiators have struck a deal to pass an amended version of the government’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme. But the opposition is yet to give its final approval to the deal, and arguments are raging within the coalition over the package. As well as excluding agriculture, the deal gives more large concessions to electricity generators, and doubles assistance to coal producers. Climate policy experts are concerned that the new concessions for big polluters will place a greater burden on households.
