The internet giant signed a 12.5 billion U.S. dollar deal to buy Motorola Mobility, the Motorola division that deals with cell-phone handsets and tablet P.C.’s. After recent disputes with Apple and Microsoft, who have charged several patent claims against Google’s Android operating system, the acquisition also grants Google a portfolio of seventeen thousand Motorola patents. Some see the acquisition as Google’s bid to gain control over intellectual property. Farah Ahmed reports on whether this marks a turn in Google’s corporate strategy.
