This week is national Drug Action Week and throughout the country activities aimed at raising awareness about alcohol and other drugs issues have been going on. One such activity was the launch of Carer and Consumer participation, a new theme day aimed at including drug users in shaping policies, resources and services. Getting drug users involved in delivering effective drug treatment wouldn’t seem to be a rational solution. But according to Annie Madden, Executive Officer of the Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League, drug users have a unique perspective to give on the effects of drugs and should be more involved in promoting change.
