A proposal by The Reef and Rainforest research center has made plans to pump cold water on to localised sections of the Great Barrier Reef to alleviate the damage caused by coral bleaching. ‘Geo engineering’ solutions such as these have been proposed in the past to conserve the environment but have been criticised as a quick fix solution to a larger problem.
