It was good news and maybe not so good news for Australian same sex couples today with the announcement that the government intends to amend all discriminatory laws against them – but marriage is still out of the question. Rodney Croom from the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group says the proposed changes will immediately make life easier and fairer for gay couples. Peter Furness, National Convenor for Australian Marriage Equality says same sex couples will never have true equality until they can be legally married. He says the government is holding out to appease the Christian lobby.
