Future support for Australian farmers could be dry

As many Australian farmers continue to battle extreme dry conditions, Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce has proposed a $7bn aid package to the cabinet to relieve the rural industries. But there is no guarantee that this proposal will be met with agreement when it goes to cabinet, and community members affected by drought say that they need long-term solutions to deal with a worsening problem.

Climate scientists also say that the drought problem is likely to get worse as the climate in Australia changes, and farmers are going to be far worse off if a serious response is not implemented.
