First it was festivals, then alongside them grew the edgier concept of a Fringe festival. In the case of the Adelaide Fringe Festival it has far outgrown the original Festival of Arts that inspired it. Held in March each year ,the Adelaide Fringe  showcases close to a thousand acts,  and at the moment many of thsose are in Scotland honing their performances  at the famous Edinburgh Fringe. Greg Clarke has is director of the Adelaide Fringe. He says Fringe Festivals are a wonderfully  democratic and accessible way of letting  any artist have a go and keeping  the arts scene alive and vibrant.
