Falun Gong sue former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin

An Australian citizen who says she was tortured while imprisoned in China is one step closer to suing the former Chinese President Jiang Zemin. The case, which has been lodged with the NSW Supreme Court, is closer to having a hearing date set after a status meeting at the court today. Falun Dafa, or Falun Gong, is a spiritual movement which was banned by the Chinese regime in 1999. Since then a brutal crackdown has been underway, with credible reports suggesting thousands of people having been jailed or tortured. Members of the Falun Dafa Association of NSW used today’s legal hearing to protest on the front steps of the court, waving banners, meditating to music and conducting mock beatings at the hands of the military. Michael Atkin has more.
