The EU parliament has voted to completely ban single-use plastics by 2021.

The ban was proposed in May, and approved on Wednesday.

They drafted the plans in order to reduce ocean pollution, and will ban plastic cutlery and plates, cotton buds, straws, and other ordinary throwaway items across the union.

The EU is trying to make a major statement with this ban, and expects its member states to follow suit.
