On Wednesday, the United States’ congress will play host to a very new type of international forum. A new initiative, dubbed the e-parliament, will be held in Washington, and will feature a joint parliamentary session involving a group of democratically elected legislators from 10 countries. Australia will be represented by Democrats leader, Lyn Allison. The parliament will be broadcast live on the web, and journalists and members of the public from around the world will be able to quiz the officials on their positions. The first issue up for debate should provide plenty of food for thought. The e-parliament’s first session will focus on the possible deployment of weapons in outer space. Secretary general of the e-parliament, Nicholas Dunlop, spoke earlier with Erica Vowles about how the idea came about.
