Research shows the tropical zone around the Earth’s equator is expanding and it could have major consequences for Australia in the future.

Dubbed the Earth’s ‘bulging waistline’, science shows the zone has expanded by around 56 to 111km per decade in both hemispheres.

The change in climate has serious consequences for Australia which researchers say will experience greater incidences of extreme weather.
