Early Learning: Australian Government Doesn’t Seem to Care

Childcare services in Australia have seen an increase in enrolments throughout COVID-19.

This is due to the free Early Childhood Education and Care Relief Package provided by the government.

The relief package, however, will phase out by October 4th.

Those receiving job keeper payments in the childcare sector will also end as of July 20.

This is despite predictions that the economic burden of COVID-19 will be long-term, as Australia heads into a recession.

Advocates fear going ‘back to normal’ may have negative impacts, especially on families in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
