Major supermarkets recall salad products due to E.coli contamination concerns

Recalls have been issued for a variety of pre-packaged salad products over the past week in major Australian supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and IGA.
This is due to concerns of bacterial contamination from a strain of’ ‘Shiga toxin-producing E.coli’ that may be present in products including spinach and mixed-leaf salad bags.
Product recalls for these types of pre-packaged salads are not entirely uncommon. Often these products are vulnerable to E.coli bacteria at a variety of stages throughout the production process. This can occur during harvesting, handling and processing, particularly when cross-contamination poses a risk.
Consumers are being urged to check use-by dates up until April 9th and not consume any of the recalled produce.
