Today is International Drug Users day and a group in Australia is using the day to all for more tolerance of those who partake in illicit substances. According to The Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League, one third of all Australians have tried illicit drugs. That means mums and dads, the elderly and people holding down steady jobs have turned to illegal substances, without causing any harm to society. But despite this the league says that illegal drug users arte constantly the subject of vilification by sections of the media, face dismissal at work and harassment on the street by the police. The group says its time for Australia to rethink its approach to drugs and to start to recognize that illegal drug users deserve the same access to society’s benefits such as health care, as anyone else. The President of the Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League is Michael Lodge explained his group’s concerns.
