Recommendations from the NT Royal Commission into youth detention and child protection has stopped short of recommending criminal proceedings, but the conclusions are damning nonetheless including the closure of the Don Dale centre.

But why are virtually ALL of the children in custody in NT Indigenous? Aboriginal elders could and should be partnered in the authority over young offenders to provide a whole of community response, and avoid creating a cycle of incarceration.
