A friendlier more humane policy is how the government is seeking to present new changes to the rules on mandatory detention. The policy announced this morning will see children and families deemed ‘vulnerable’ allowed out of detention. But refugee groups say the policy is big on spin but lacks substance, criticising both the speed of the release of children and also a simultaneous increase in Australia’s mandatory detention capacity.
