Dead heat on Labor and Liberal economic management

A research paper titled “Who is better at managing the Australian economy: Labour or the Calition” has found that there are large differences between the economic performance of both the Labour and Coalition governments, but that neither is more proficient then the other. The research, released by the non-goverment organisation and policy analysis group, the Australia Institute, has rated the coalition and labour governments since 1983, the year Bob Hawke was sworn in as Labour Prime Minister. Acoording to the author of the research, Raja Jananker, the paper gives a good macroeconomic comparison of the two parties, and while it doesn’t come to any definite conclusions, he believes it has produced some very interesting results. Charles Gregory reports.
