The newly re-elected Queensland government has created a Child Safety Department – arising from a review of child protection systems. Abuse in indigenous communities was put under the spotlight by the women of Cherbourg before the election. Kirrily Boulton asked Lillian Grey, Family Support Worker from the Junda Women’s Shelter in Cherbourg, what she thinks of the new department – and how cultural differences make child protection difficult, especially in court.
